Mouse 30 Maple Short Scale Fretted Bass #1609

Mouse 30 Maple Short Scale Fretted Bass #1609
Mouse 30 #1609. This Mouse 30 features a semi-hollow alder body, with a gorgeous and unique one piece curly maple top. This rare wood comes from a large block that I acquired back in the early 2000’s, it was enough to make about 10 instruments, and this is second to last piece. It was harvested in the 70’s so I estimate it to have had about 50 years of seasoning until now. It has an incredibly rich honey/amber color to it by nature (no stain is used) and is iridescent and 3D from every angle. It’s quite unusual to find a block of wood large enough to fit a whole bass body, without flaws, and with the proper grain pattern and orientation……in 28 years of selecting wood for instruments, the block that this comes from will always stand out in my mind as a rare and special opportunity that I was lucky enough to come across.
The 30 inch scale neck is made from black walnut, and features an aged Indian Rosewood fretboard, with the integrated thumbrest option. The frets are a tiny mandolin sized, and offer a low action that is very easy to play. The frets are made of nickel silver (a softer metal alloy), and due to their tiny size and low mass, they produce a warm woody tone. The strings are La Bella 760n, a steel flat wound with a black nylon outer wrapping. This wrapping is very smooth, and also protects the frets from wear, allowing a small fret size that will have a very long lifespan. The black nylon also softens the top end of the sound nicely, while the metal core retains the punch. The matching bridge is also made from Indian Rosewood.
A custom made form fit case is included, it fits the bass like a hand in a glove, and is made locally, from G & G cases in Los Angeles, CA.
